Specialty Engineering, Inc is a unique company offering a wide range of experience and education in the area of power system operations, design, consultation and studies, petroleum industry controls, and general engineered systems.  We provide extensive services from planning studies, design and construction, to periodic testing and maintenance.  We are currently seeking a skilled Shop Technician to join our Vancouver team. 


This Technician will be required to test, troubleshooting, and repair electrical/mechanical substation apparatus.  Additional skills required for this position included fork lift operation, good communication (verbal and written), painting, and computer operation. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, moving up and down ladders regularly and stand on feet 20 to 30 hours per week. Administrative duties will also include interface with customers, prepare written proposals, prepare estimates, prepare reports, and assist in processing invoices.  Given the unique skills required to provide these services the Shop Technician will receive training as needed and will be expected to be thoroughly proficient in all skills in approximately one year.  A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is a must.

A valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record is required.  Attention to detail is a must in this position. We are seeking a team player, self-starter, and a well-organized person willing to work in a fast paced environment.


This position offers full benefits including health insurance, life insurance and long term disability on the first day of the month following your start date.  Life insurance and long term disability are completely company funded.  Health insurance costs are shared between employer and employee.

SEI offers two different health coverage plans that you may choose from.  One is a traditional plan and the other is a high deductible plan with a Health Savings Account.  Monthly premiums differ between plans and coverage levels.  Additional information will be provided to aid in the choosing to the preferred option.  Health insurance coverage will be offered to you, your spouse and any dependents at a reduced rate so long as no one is covered by a concurrent medical policy.  If you elect not to participate in the company health coverage, SEI will pay you an additional $250/month. 

SEI offers an optional dental/vision plan where the company and the employee share the costs as well.  Dental/vision is also eligible as allowable expenses under the high-deductible with Health Savings Account option of the health insurance.  Additional information will be provided to aid in the choosing to the preferred option.

Life insurance coverage is $25,000 for employees, $5,000 for your spouse and $2,000 for each dependent.  Long Term Disability coverage is included in your Life Insurance package.  Coverage begins after 90 days of disability and pays 67% of your salary.  There is also the option to purchase additional life insurance. 

Short Term disability, accident, hospital confinement and other options may be purchased at the employee’s expense through Colonial Life starting the first day of the month following the hire date.

You will also be eligible for participation in the company 401(K).  The plan includes a 3% non-elective safe harbor company contribution based on your gross wages.

Employee benefits include three weeks a year paid time off (vacation and sick leave combined). Paid time off accumulates at a rate of five hours per pay period, and can accrue up to 240 hours. After 5 years of employment with SEI you will accrue up to 4 weeks of vacation time and after 8 years of employment, you will accrue up to 5 weeks of vacation time. In addition, every year on January 1st, the company will gift 16 hours of vacation to you. 

SEI also offers nine paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and two days for Thanksgiving, two days for Christmas, New Year’s Eve).

After 3 months of employment with SEI, you will also be eligible to receive one half of your monthly membership dues at an approved health club.  This will be reimbursed to your through payroll as a taxable wage.

EPS classifies this position as a full time, exempt position.

Due to the work we do on petroleum and pipeline facilities, SEI requires a drug test prior to, and during your employment with SEI.  Failure of the test may result in termination of employment.
